06 Jan Rest: The Ideal Principle of Well-being
In reflecting on the idea of rest, we recall the Biblical account of Creation, where God took time to rest and reflect after each day’s work in addition to establishing the seventh day of holy rest. This illustrates the importance of rest as a principle of balance and a fundamental part of our well-being. By caring for our bodies and spirits, we acknowledge the necessity of recovery and rejuvenation, especially as we navigate the challenges that come with aging, health, and well-being.
As certain aspects of our lives have progressed, Kaye and I have found it essential to devote our attention and focus to these developments. While we have always prioritized community service and giving of our time, recent medical and personal advancements have prompted us to take a step back as we seek to redefine our balance, prioritize self-care, and establish new boundaries.
Lately, I’ve been battling persistent nerve pain that has led me to rely on a walker just a few weeks after celebrating my 40th birthday. This journey has revealed God’s purpose for this season in our lives: to embrace the urgency of rest, recovery, and renewal.
We don’t need to fully comprehend another’s journey to offer support; rather, we can walk alongside others with empathy and compassion. We are grateful for the strength we have to embody these values. Just as the Good Samaritan approached those in need with understanding and compassion, we strive to see beyond the surface. By recognizing our shared humanity, we empower ourselves to navigate our own challenges while uplifting those around us.
In this new chapter, we are reminded that taking time for ourselves not only benefits us but also enhances our ability to support and uplift those around us. Let’s embrace this journey together!
