24 Jan The Prevailing Notions of My Today
I quietly prayed today for a lady who was sharing some of her medical challenges. My heart listened as she spoke, and I prayed that God would align everything that was out of place in her life; I asked God to bring her healing, comfort, strength, and peace. I prayed for others in the room and asked the Lord God to do the same for all of them as well. In that moment, prayer prevailed as the prevailing notion.
In another moment, a song took me back to precious memories from my high school graduation party and of a dear friend, teacher, and mentor who recently passed away. Remembering him brought a smile to my face and laughter to my heart. Within this moment, memories and laughter became the prevailing notion.
In another moment, I reflected on the treasure of my wife and her care, appreciating the beautiful lunch she prepared for me today. Gratitude emerged, and my appreciation and love for her became the prevailing notion.
In another moment, I listened as my wife described some possible adverse reactions of the test and procedure I was having today. As she exited the room and turned to say goodbye, with a sense of urgency and sentimental vulnerability, I told her, “Je vous aime,” intently taking the space of that moment to let her know that I truly love her. I wanted to leave her with something sentimental that she could hold onto, just in case we were saying our last “goodbyes.” Love, life, and our inability to be here forever became the prevailing notion; covenant love, life, and our inability to be here forever prevailed as the prevailing notion.
In another moment, it was seeing inspiration displayed on the wall at the doctor’s office—to know that hearts that have been broken can be mended with the right care and support.
Among the prevailing notions of my today were sincere prayers for healing, support, care, and strength. For those who experienced hunger and thirst, as well as those in need of prayer, support, and care, there was God’s comforting presence to empower and uplift—a prevailing notion and reminder that one doesn’t have to walk alone in their struggles.
Were there any prevailing notions in your day?
